Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 16 for the Small Flock Committee’s annual picnic. This year’s event will be featuring sheep judge Judy Moore addressing the goals and pitfalls of sheep conformation in her presentation titled “Form to Function.” Pitchfork Ranch will be hosting the event and, along with Ugly Dogs Farm, offering up its sheep to Judy’s critical and experienced eye. Multiple breeds will be featured, including Romney, Bluefaced Leicesters, Teeswaters, Merinos, Cheviots, maybe a Clun or two, and a few crossbreds. Relative strengths and weaknesses of individual sheep and how they influence the intended use of those sheep  will be discussed in detail, as well as the evaluation of fleece on the hoof.  It should be very interesting and informative. As if that weren’t enough, a wonderful potluck lunch will be held featuring Pitchfork lamb barbecue and Koegel’s Viennas (the best hot dogs EVER), along with the wonderful dishes brought by the attendees. The feed will commence at noon, so plan to arrive by 11 am or so in order to be in place and ready for the vittles. A farm tour will end the day at around 3 pm.

Bring a comfy folding chair, your favorite drink (unless it is bottled water), and a dish to pass. Looking forward to see many of you there!
